Job Description

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Housing Officer (12 months) to join our team and make a difference in the lives of our residents. This full-time fixed-term role is based in Hobart (Office based in Hobart CBD). It will provide housing-related services to support our residents' tenancies and achieve our organisational goals.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering good customer service, have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, understand the goals of a social housing provider and be able to work collaboratively within a small team. You will also need to be resilient, able to respond to a changing environment and adhere to our organisational values.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You:

  • Experience and/or knowledge of working with people that have complex or challenging circumstances such as being at risk of homelessness,  experiencing drug and/or alcohol issues or who may live with mental health issues.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills including mediation and conflict resolution.
  • Well-developed organisational skills including ability to manage competing priorities together with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Someone who can contribute positively to the team while also having the capacity to function autonomously. 
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulatory frameworks relating to housing such as the Residential Tenancy Act 1997 Tas.   
  • Experience in managing a sizeable portfolio of tenancies in public, community or private sector housing.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the use of Microsoft Office and the capacity to use/learn new systems and data bases such as a housing management database.

Desirable 

  • A Social Housing, Property Management or Community Services qualification or significant experience.
  • Knowledge of the Community Housing Sector and/or property management  industry and tenancy management practices.

  • Agree and undergo any other employment screening as required by Housing Choices - including but not restricted to Working with Children or Vulnerable Persons and NDIS Worker (this will be as applicable based on the state location and/or function of the role)
  • Agree and comply with Child Safety policies and procedures
  • Provide a current driver’s license and willingness to travel across Housing Choices’ locations, if and as required.
