Job Description

We have a 6-month fixed term opportunity to work within our Payroll Team as the Senior Payroll Specialist.  As an experienced payroll (ICHRIS) guru, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the effectiveness and the quality of conformance of our payroll system. 


You will report into the Financial Controller and be responsible for the integrity and compliance of Housing Choices Australia’s payroll and its processes.  In doing so you will perform a thorough analysis of the system to ensure compliance, best practice and the system is optimised for efficiency and accuracy.  The role is fundamental to ensuring that information flows correctly into and out of the payroll system so that employees are paid correctly and on time including tasks connected to this goal.  You will see yourself play a pivotal role in the payroll system setup review, maintenance, issue resolution and enhancement. 


This position requires someone who is meticulous, proactive, analytical and possesses a mindset geared towards process improvement.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You:

  • Providing data analysis and relevant insights across the payroll system for staff paid under our enterprise agreement and other relevant awards
  • Applying vast analytical skills and knowledge to complex data sets
  • Combining data from various sources to complete reviews, provide detailed reports with suggestions for rectifications or solutions and managing these projects to fruition 
  • Influencing the scope, planning and outcomes of payroll related projects
  • Utilising your advanced Excel skills and payroll knowledge to assess compliance data in relation to a range of legislative requirements
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders across our enabling functions to impart knowledge and ensure ongoing relevancy of data, reporting and insights
  • Updating policies, procedures and other documents aligning with legislative changes 
  • Demonstrated experience with high volume and complex end-to-end payroll processing
  • Working with iChris/Chris21 advanced compacity 
  • Excellent attention to detail and excellent communication and written skills
  • Ability to work independently and be self-driven to ensure the Payroll function achieves its desired outcomes
  • A pragmatic and outcome focused approach with proven ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Thrive in new situations

  • Agree and undergo any other employment screening as required by Housing Choices - including but not restricted to Working with Children or Vulnerable Persons and NDIS Worker (this will be as applicable based on the state location and/or function of the role)
  • Agree and comply with Child Safety policies and procedures
  • Provide a current driver’s license and willingness to travel across Housing Choices’ locations, if and as required.
